Wine Tasting

Like minds deliver a uniquely professional approach

Watermen’s Hall has teamed up with Cameron Cavendish Fine Wines Ltd to offer an exceptionally professional service that is delivered in as informal a manner as is required. We want the events we run to be enjoyable and yet worthwhile; relaxed and yet memorable. We are strongly of the opinion that pulling faces and using improbable adjectives does not bring home the burgundy.

Costs

No two tastings are ever the same, so prices will always vary depending on the services you require.

Contact us to discuss the events you wish to organise. We will listen to your requirements and make our suggestions. Obviously we can provide staff, glasses, blind tasting covers, catering etc. We are always happy to offer our organisational help with all aspects of the function should that be required.

You will receive a tailor-made costing providing precise details of all aspects of the event and a list of agreed wines.

Once all details have been agreed we will send out a booking form re-confirming all the required arrangements for the event and our costs. We ask for a deposit at the time the booking form is signed and returned.

A properly run wine tasting is a corporate function with wide appeal

We do not offer a single product. We tailor each tasting to suit the chosen guest list and the desired occasion. You choose what you want and we deliver.

  • for 10 to 40 people

  •  wines are presented “blind” or with labels displayed

  • set up as a relaxed “competition” that clients move around freely or organised as a formal tasting with a separate glass per wine, spittoons, comparative tasting notes etc

  • comprised of wines from the same (or different): vintages, regions, grape varieties, prices etc.. The choice of the wines is yours – we can provide whatever you want.

Relaxed Tasting Competitions

The usual format involves a welcoming introduction, a brief demonstration of how professionals taste before the participants taste their way round 6 or more wines, which have their labels covered. Each participant completes a questionnaire with a series of multiple-choice answers. These are collected, marked and a winner announced and presented with a bottle of champagne or similar. This is an excellent method of breaking the ice between different groups of people who are not well known to each other. Everyone can join in, and the quiz can be taken seriously or not – it is up to the individual. Some fun questions are included and with multiple choice answers no one needs feel that they will look stupid.

Formal Tastings

These tastings are sit-down affairs, with a Master of Wine chairing the proceedings. Perhaps 6 or 8 wines will be shown one at a time, with a short discussion after each wine is tasted. Contributions from the assembled company are actively encouraged. We have often concluded such events with champagne and canapés, which gives the participants time to discuss matters vinous or otherwise, and to stretch their legs.
